It took 18 years but the Predators have finally advanced to the NHL’s biggest stage: the Stanley Cup Final.
Nashville clinched a series victory in the Western Conference finals with a 6-3 win in Game 6 over Anaheim. Fittingly, tyhe Preds did it at home in Bridgestone Arena in front of a raucous crowd.
The Kings have a new backup goalie: Darcy Kuemper. The Kings announced the signing Saturday night (via the Los Angeles Times’ Helene Elliott); it’s a one-year, $650,000 deal. Kuemper, 27, played in 18 games for the Wild last season; he compiled a 3.13 GAA and a .902 save percentage.
Alexei Emelin has been traded to the Predators from the Golden Knights for a third-round draft pick, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.
The 31-year-old defenseman is coming off a forgettable season in Montreal and was scooped up by Vegas in the expansion draft. From a roster standpoint, Emelin’s addition (and $4.1 million cap hit) doesn’t make much sense for the Predators, who now have eight NHL defenseman under contract. Could it be a precursor to something bigger?
Grubauer, who turns 26 in November, will be exposed by the Caps — barring a side deal, of course — because Braden Holtby is the the team’s star goalie of the present and foreseeable future. He’s a restricted free agent this summer, due a fair raise from his $750,000 base last year, coming off a season where he established career highs in appearances (24), victories (13), save percentage (.926) and shutouts (3).
